Former Liverpool and Chelsea star Fernando Torres could be set for a stunning return to the Premier League, as well as an unlikely reunion with Rafa Benitez, as Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for the striker, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

Torres enjoyed a hugely impressive spell in the Premier League with Liverpool, scoring 81 goals, before a disappointing move to Chelsea derailed his career somewhat. The World Cup winner is now little more than a squad rotation player at his boyhood club of Atletico Madrid and reports suggest that he desires a return to England.

Newcastle have enjoyed a fairly successful campaign in their first season back in the top flight, and the Magpies currently sit 11th in the Premier League table. While this is a decent start Benitez’s side have really struggled for goals, scoring just ten times in 11 games.

With this in mind the club have made acquiring a striker their top priority in the January transfer window, and someone like Fernando Torres, who has an abundance of Premier League experience, would be the perfect addition.

The Spaniard has always had a keen eye for goal and clearly has a good working relationship with Rafa Benitez as the pair have worked together at both Liverpool and Chelsea.
